Aliens
Neslihan Celik-George
June 14, 2013 — June 21, 2013
Reception: June 14, 6:00 — 8:00 p.m.

Join us at Full Circle Gallery on June 14, 2013 for the opening reception for Neslihan Celik-George’s most recent solo exhibit Aliens.
Neslihan Celik-George is currently enrolled at Florida University where she is completing a Masters in Art Education program. Teaching young children is her passion and is the primary reason she decided to pursue graduate studies. Neslihan has worked as an art teacher at several public schools in her native Turkey and in the United States. She is currently working for Abrakadoodle, an art education company. She teaches art at a public middle school and is an instructor for adult painting classes.
Neslihan unveiled her first solo exhibit Figure in 2011 and is currently experimenting with new art concepts. Her most recent exhibit Aliens is part of her Master’s degree research project. During the last two years she has studied international students, globalization and migrants in the US. She has identified some of the challenges that international students encounter during their pursuit of educational studies at US universities, particularly those students who consider English to be their second language. Her research draws primarily on personal testimonies from international students who are currently enrolled in an arts program at a North American University, as well as statistics relating to international students. Aliens is a synthesis of her findings that portrays the experience of the international student through clay sculpture.

Security Blanket
The "SOS Security Blanket" is a community project and conceptual art piece made of petroleum based plastics. It is Mercedes' intention to combine fine art and domestic crafts to allow people to express their concerns about the Gulf oil spill, current energy policies, and to be part of the dialog about how we can work towards a more sustainable future. If you would like to create a piece for this project, please click here for more details.
